Ice Climbing with SendHers

I’m proud to be part of a very cool group of women from the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Boston Chapter Mountaineering Committee called the SendHers.

The SendHers mission is to expand the number of female climbers in the community, and this weekend I joined in for an open cabin weekend at the Harvard Low cabin, and a day of ice climbing at Champney Falls.

We had a great day at Champney Falls, with blue skies and fat ice.

I had an ice-climbing breakthrough when I stopped trying to climb ice using the same body mechanics that I use when I climb rock.

It was great to spend time with other women who make outdoor adventures part of their lives! We had a full house back at the cabin for dinner, where we were joined by other women (and some men) who had been out doing other awesome things on a beautiful winter day in the White Mountains.

Sunday was still beautiful, and I spent it skiing.

Great turns in the morning under clear, blue skies. I pushed the edges of my comfort zone a bit, tackling some of the steeper slopes. It wasn’t always pretty, but I still feel proud of myself. Next up— bigger mountains and deeper snow!
