How did you spend your Leap Day?

I don’t typically make New Year’s resolutions, but this year I made two. The first one was to do something awesome on February 29, which conveniently fell on a Saturday, and the second one is none of your business.

An extended weekend at Snowbird falls into the Awesome category. The two workdays right before were grueling, and I didn’t manage to leave work completely behind, but I did…

…Ride through a tunnel drilled through the mountain

…Grow more comfortable dropping in on some of the steeper slopes

…Develop a sick goggle line under bright sun and bluebird skies

…Discover that powder really does exist (and that it’s totally different, amazingly fun, and really hard work)

…Laugh at locals when they complained about “icy” conditions

…Have one epic yard sale, but not right under the lift, (for once)

…Get into a steep, mogul-filled glade where I had to take off my skis and butt scoot back to less terrifying terrain

…Get onto a steep, mogul-filled hillside without trees where I was way outside my comfort zone but managed to ski down it because the snow was soft and what was the worst that could happen anyway? (Don’t answer that.)

…Shred, (or at least lightly fray), the gnar

…Appreciate that even craft beer in Utah is all 5.0%, which is about my limit at altitude

And now it’s March. I’m home in time to vote in the primary, and the only snows to be seen are the snowdrops blooming in my front yard. Up next: an unAwesome weekend catching up on laundry and work.
