5, 7 and 5 syllables a haiku makes

Crouched among the ferns
Humbler than its lofty host
No less beautiful

Mirroring the skies
Stillness that awaits the rain
Only insects breathe

Who arranged the stones?
Stairs flow uphill to ridge top.
Weary feet thank you.

Forest afterlife
Vibrant new colors, textures
Richer than before

Green slopes shimmering
Summer heats even shadows
Do mountains miss snow?

No hand of human
Built stairs for water to climb
Nor carpeted them

Precocious maple!
Enjoy the summer languor
Fall comes soon enough

I never saw you
Until you lifted your face
Looking at the sky

Clouds whip overhead
Unquiet mind, restless feet
Still forest below

aah… poetry
