A short visit to Bryce Canyon National Park (2022)

It wasn’t far out of the way, so we took a short trip to admire the effect of high elevation spring snow on the fantastically eroded red spires of Bryce National Park.

What a difference ~3000 ft of elevation makes! The pink limestone spires and hoodoos of the pink cliffs look especially fantastic in contrast to the vertical cliffs or smoothly weathered Navajo, Wingate, and Estrada sandstones of Capitol Reef and the Escalante region.

In past trips we’ve hiked a bit down into the canyon, but today many of the trails were still closed for the season due to snow and risk of rock fall.

I need to come back when I can spend a few days backpacking the under-the-rim trail
